Since when does Starbucks not put espresso in frappuccinos?
I’m pregnant and went to Starbucks with a friend today. With it being 90 degrees outside I thought a frappuccino sounded nice.
When ordering I requested that mine be made decaffeinated. I was informed that they don’t have decaffeinated frappuccinos. I took this to mean they were out of decaf espresso.
As a barista in college (at a real coffee house) I made blended coffee drinks using espresso or black coffee, cream, ice and syrup (caramel, vanilla, chocolate, whatever!)
After leaving empty handed I decided to google Frappuccino to see whats really in it. I found that it is made with a premade coffee flavored “base” with ice added to it. Had I known this I would have gotten my usual iced latte with decaf instead.
My question; is this what they’ve always done and was I just a fool in the past to think I was getting more for my $4 per drink??
I don’t think we’ve ever put espresso shots in frappuccinos as the base. We can put them in to enhance the coffee flavor.
The way we make decaf frapps at my store is we take the creme base and add decaf shots of espresso to it. That way you’re getting the coffee flavor but with out the caffeine. Doing this however makes the drink really runny.
You could always just get a creme based frappuccino such as vanilla bean, double chocolate chip, or strawberries and creme, or we can put any of our syrups in and you can make your own creation.
Also, we have the vivanno smoothies which have no coffee at all,
banana chocolate
orange mango banana
strawberry banana
these all have protein and fiber blended in, so they’re really healthy for you!
